About 12.5 million high school and college students are enrolled in Career Technical Education across the nation.  Career Technical Education provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers.

It is a goal of M&M to prepare our students to compete in the world ahead of them so, in partnership with RISE, we are introducing a new program to ensure that our students are prepared and competitive in all areas as they exit high school: The Academic and Career Education program (ACE).

The Academic and Career Education (ACE) program is a newly developing program designed to educate students about, and guide them through, the steps of exploring the many possible career pathways available to them once they have completed high school. The program is designed by RISE and piloted at M & M Academy for high school students beginning this second quarter with a view toward expanding this offering in a modified version to middle school students beginning next year.  ACE is M&M’s Career Technical Education and door to adding technology experience to our program.

The purpose of Academic and Career Education is to give high school students the chance to get a head start on preparing for college and careers. In the ACE program the student will learn how core school subjects like math, science and writing are used in real-life.  ACE provides the academic and technical skills needed to succeed in a knowledge and skills-based economy. The goal of ACE is to prepare its students both for postsecondary education and the careers of their choice. In addition to assisting the student in becoming self-aware and guiding them in charting their course for the future, ACE makes personal finance, business technology, and college entrance courses a requirement for completion of the program. Students will exit ACE as career ready in that they will be equipped with the knowledge and skills essential for success in the modern workforce.

Whether the student is deciding on an education degree, occupation path, or a new business venture, there may not be one right answer. Planning is an essential part of almost every short-term task, long-term project, or future endeavor. It is essential for our students to learn the tools needed to effectively make decisions and plan at an early age. This is a skill that will be of benefit for the rest of their life.

Imagine going on a cross-country road trip without a map, or without planning your accommodations, fuel stops, food breaks or attraction spots. How lost would you be? Without planning, you are bound to run into more hurdles and longer detours. One of the main purposes of the ACE program is to prepare the student to help them avoid these hurdles, detours, and pitfalls.

Some of the concepts that will be covered in the ACE program are:

  • Self-Assessment and Growth Mindset
    • Student will take self-assessment and career aptitude tests to help them determine their career choice or path
      • We will learn about growth mindset and student will determine their preferred method or style of learning
      • Career Exploration and Goal Setting
        • We begin this unit with a career exploration project which guides the student through the process of understanding the steps and possible outcome of his/her career path
      • Career Pathways
        • Explore the direction certain career paths and begin the journey by taking mini-courses related to the career choice; and where possible, gain certifications
      • College Preparedness
        • Explore college choices
        • Determine top choices and understand the requirements
        • Complete applications and begin entrance essays
      • Career Training
        • Take career related mini-courses and certifications
        • Dual enrollment in college

      3. Learn to work with a team
      4. Get to test out newly acquired skills in a safe environment
      5. Make connections and build relationships that carry over into career
      6. Gain leadership skills
      7. Build a resume before even entering the workforce
